Diversity is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to equality of opportunity in all areas of employment and business. The HBOS Diversity Strategy was approved by the Executive Committee and the Board in January 2006. It advocates an approach whereby diversity is integrated into everything we do. The key themes of the Diversity strategy are:
Leadership
To continue to be successful in a more demanding, diverse and competitive environment, increasing reliance is placed on having the best team in banking. HBOS is creating a culture of diversity leadership throughout the organisation, starting at the very top, showing active sponsorship of our diversity commitments.
Awareness and Education
HBOS is delivering consistent and effective diversity training solutions to the businesses that are accessible to all colleagues, including the new Diversity at Work e-learning package. We are also supporting existing training and development activities to ensure diversity and inclusion issues are embedded throughout.
Disability
A new group-wide Disability Strategy was agreed in May 2006. This builds on our previous achievements and makes a step change in our approach to inclusion of colleagues and customers with disabilities.
Getting the Basics Right
One of our key objectives is to ensure diversity and inclusion is effectively embedded into all stages of the employment cycle and every interaction with our colleagues.
